"It’s not looking good for BMW X5 Diesel owners.

Just a couple of months after the 2012 model was recalled due to a steering fault, a new recall has been issued on the 2009 BMW X5 xDrive35d by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) due to a potential fault with the heating system for the vehicle’s diesel fuel.

The affected vehicles are those built from October 1, 2008, through June 12, 2009, of which there are some 2,120 units.

The issue concerns the fuel filter heater, which is used for warming up the diesel fuel during vehicle operation at low outside temperatures. It could experience an electrical overload condition where it becomes permanently activated.

The consequence is that it could remain activated even when the ignition is turned off, leading to a dead battery or a potential fire.

If you own a 2009 BMW X5 xDrive35d, you can contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (reference recall campaign number 11V441000) or BMW customer relations at 1-800-525-7417 or via email at [email protected]."
